  1. What is Bug Club? • A reading program that St. Peter’s has purchased and will use to help teach reading. • Finely levelled e-books Both books and e-books feature some well-known characters and brands

  2. Why are we using e-books? • Children can enjoy reading books onscreen and completing fun quiz questions found in the e-books • The quiz questions will help the children practise their reading skills • The e-books are also audio-books, so children can enjoy hearing an expressive reading of the book When can children use the e-books? • If you have access to an internet connection at home, your child can log on whenever they want to, from home. • If you don’t have internet access at home, please see me to make an alternative arrangement.

  3. Using the e-books Login here with the details we will give you Example login details Username: mollyvalentino Password: cat Each child’s login details will be different

  4. A child’s homepage A Year 1 homepage Each year looks different • Your child will see e-books on their homepage • We will allocate them e-books according to the reading level they are on • They are expected to read 1 book a week

  5. Reading an e-book • Click on the book cover & see how many quiz questions there are • Read the book and click on the bug icons to open the quiz questions • Your child does not need to finish all quiz questions in one sitting. They can come back to a book later.

  6. Bug Points and Rewards A Foundation reward screen – collecting stickers. Each year level has a different rewards system. • When they have finished all quiz questions in ane-book, they will gain some Bug Points. • When they have read a few e-books, they will have enough Bug Points to gain a reward. • A reward will appear on their screen, and they can see this reward in ‘My rewards’.

  7. Books I Have Read • When your child has finished an e-book, it will move to ‘Books I Have Read’ where they can read it again, if they want to. • They can choose a new e-book from ‘My books’.

  8. Getting the most out of the e-books • Children can read at their own pace. • Encourage your child to attempt all quizzes. • We can track their progress and help them with types of quiz questions they struggle with. • Allow your child to read a favourite e-book again.
