  1. CSC upgrade for LS1 USA-15 rack: layout, construction and installation 11th February 2013

  2. Network ports • Rack Y.29-16.A1 includes a 24-port switch: S3125-2-IP51. • The new system requires three ports: 2x TDI and shelf manager. • Currently, there are six ports available. • Silvia Batraneanu (net admin) carried out a survey of users of the switch to find out what their requirements are for LS1 and Phase 0. One extra port will be freed as well as the two used by the CSC sbc. • Also, there is enough ports in the control and data switches for the two extra ROSes in case we need them.

  3. Fibers • Layout: • Break-out cables (SC to MPO) from chambers to patch panel in wheel structure. These cables are different in length. • 80 meter cables from patch panel to USA-15. • Extensions to make up for the different lengths of the break-out cables. • Extensions + break-out cables = 13 meters. • Total = 80 m. + 13 m. = 93 meters.

  4. Fibers • The extensions will be kept so that the length from chamber to patch panel is the same across all fibers. • Re-commission the existing fibers: • Borrow a light meter and optical reflectometer (OTDR) from the TTC group. • Measure length and attenuation of each fiber. If need be, terminate cables (who, where?). • Buy or manufacture a patch panel and install it in Y.28-16.A1.

  5. Fibers • Buy two sets of 48 cables (key/up - key/down): • Patch panel to VME crates = 10 meters. • Patch panel to ATCA shelf = 3 meters. • George Mikenberg will order fibers for RPC and MDT to Fibernet on the 18th of Feb. Join this order. • Move data/control fibers from Y.29-16.A1 to Y.28-16.A1. This will be done by Sergei Malyukov‘s team under our supervision. • Clean up rack Y.29-16.A1. • Y.28-16.A1 will be freed by the 22nd of February.

  6. TTC crate • After talking to Thilo: • There is not need to acquire a new TTC crate. • Currently, TTC Ex modules are very difficult to obtain – albeit this situation will change as CMS will do without them during LS1. • We can use the available outputs in TTC Ex (8 free) to feed the COBs and the inputs inthe ROD Busy module. • Both systems can run independently or together. This would be controlled by software. Thilo would help. • Move TTC crate from Y.29-16.A1 to Y.28-16.A1.

  7. Rack • Includes: • ATCA shelf: 14U • TDI x 2: 1U x 2 = 2U • TTC crate: 6U • F/O box: 3U • Heat exchangers provided by OPM. • Fan tray needed? If so, we need to get one. Wiener fan trays come with the DCS interface (CAN). • Blade servers do not need special cooling. • Provide plan/design to Martin within the next two weeks: power consumption, power dissipation, etc.
