  1. PowerPoint on EFL Technology Plan Technology for TEFLTEFL 530 By Joseph López

  2. Technology in a Language classroom • We must use the social networks available to all the students to learn English. • We have to ask our student to join twitter, Google+, igoogle, and have a facebook account. • We have to get the students to practice English all the time, convince them the more they practice the better they will be able to speak.

  3. Google in a Language classroom • Google is much more advanced than many people realize. • Google has its own social network called Google+ • Google+ is in the writers opinion much better than the other social networks due to closed groups, where no one else in the world can look in but the group can look out and investigate. • Igoogle is also part of Google that students and teachers can create personal pages for further learning which will be discussed later.

  4. Twitter, and Facebook in the Language classroom. • Social networking on the Internet attracts many student so why not use it to learn English too. • Twitter is one social network that is very good for students and teachers alike. Groups can be restricted. • Facebook is very popular with everyone these days, but there are too many people in the world in it so it is not very safe to use unless your security is high in Facebook.

  5. Blogging • Blogging is a social network where people can discuss about a certain subject they are interested in. • This is a very good way of learning English interacting with other people in the world with the same interests as their own. • Ask students to join, participate and create blogs at www.blogger.com

  6. Technology • I was very motivated about technology in the classroom with this video.

  7. Podcasting in a language classroom • Podcasting is a form of digital recording of a voice to practice speaking English. • Podcasting is latest technology in education. Since the students are learning a language with this technology they can practice speaking, reading, and listening. Before we had to use cassettes then cd’s , but speaking practice was limited to recording their voices on cd or cassette. Now with this technology they can practice through the computer rerecording as many times as they want. • We have to ask the students to join www.podomatic.com • http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ is another recoding device that can mix slow down, and speed up recordings which can make students using this can make expert technical students.

  8. Live Video imaging in the language classroom • There is fairly new technology where someone can communicate with another person via the Internet and speak and see each at the same. • The two competing companies that offer this service for free are Skpe and oovoo. They can be found at www.skype.com and www.oovoo.com • The language students using this tool can begin to practice English with other students around the world and down the street.

  9. Wikis in the language classroom • Wikis are excellent learning tools in a language classroom. The teacher creates a wiki and the student add and put in what interests them. • It is very dynamic, and I think very entertaining. • For my university class I intend the students create their own wiki or one wiki for the class subdivided by the students majors, and have them write in and talk about their future careers in English. • We must ask the students to join wiki at www.wikispaces.com

  10. Internet language teaching programs in the classroom • Learning a language by Internet is the latest breakthrough in education technology. • We have two major programs with one big difference one is free and the other is paid for by the student. • The two are LiveMocha at www.livemocha.com and Tell Me More at www.tellmemore.com • Livemocha is good to learn a language but there are many gaps that left. • I work with Tell me more at the university, and am not at happy with it.

  11. The creation of an ELL English Learning Environment • I was fascinated with Igoogle. • This will help student continue learning English after they finish their requirement for their major. • My project for the students is for them to make an igoogle page that interests them to continue learning English after they finish with my class. • The igoogle I created is on this page • http://www.google.com/ig

  12. Conclusion • Technology is the most important tool we as teachers have to motivate our students to learn. • There are many websites that we have to use to help the students learn English. • Computers are a tool for learning English we are still needed as teachers. Computers cannot teach. • There is a human touch to technology we use it to help us teach we cannot rely on it to teach. • I hope we can all continue learning more technology so that our students can learn English well!
