  1. Waltham Youth Hockey American Development Model News: • Increase focus on ADM for 2012-2013 Season • Board of Directors voted unanimously to add ADM position • Mike Losier appointed as ADM Director in July 2012 • Research and discussions with Roger Grillo from USA Hockey • Plan developed for 2012-2013 season

  2. 2012 – 2013 Program Overview: Beginning with practices on Friday September 28th, teams scheduled on Fridays will conduct “ADM” Practices. Schedule will rotate through Mites, Squirts and Pee Wees each Friday. Three teams will be scheduled for each session (EX: Mite AAA, Mite AA and Mite A would share once session). Practice Plans will be distributed via email by Mike Losier to the coaches of the teams scheduled prior to Friday. Practice Plans will incorporate 4-6 stations for a typical 50 minute ice session (5-10 minute warm up as well) Each coach will be assigned to a station PRIOR to Friday’s practice. One coach will be assigned to be the “Leader” of the practice. The leader will be responsible for keeping the time, rotating stations, and monitoring to ensure drills are being conducted properly. Coaches are ENCOURAGED to give instruction to players, correct bad habits, demonstrate proper technique, etc.

  4. Potential Challenges: • Coaches’ role • Imperative to have the support of the Coaches. • Practices will be run by Coaches, need to ensure adequate attendance to be successful (for a 6 station practice, would need 7 coaches to run efficiently). • Lead Coach needs to take control and keep things moving. Important to flow from station to station to ensure drills are running smoothly. • Station set up • Need coaches to arrive early to set up (cones, tires, dividers, etc as required) • Need to be as organized as possible IN ADVANCE! • Notification • Email will be the source of communicating practice plans. Need Coaches to be able to access email, especially weeks where their team is scheduled for a Friday practice.
