  1. Telling time Let’s review what you already know…..

  2. You know that the clock has twohands. The long hand is the minute hand and the short hand is the hour hand.

  3. What else do you know??You also know that there are 12 numbers placed around the face of the clock. Each number stands for a certain number of minutes past the hour. If you know how to count by 5’s then you know how to figure out how many minutes past the hour it is.

  4. For Example: When the minute hand is on the 8, that means that it is 40 minutes past the hour. We can use multiplication to help out too. 8X 5 = 40

  5. More 5’s If the minute hand is on the 3, how many minutes past the hour is it? How about on the 9? How about on the 5? How about on the 7? How about on the 11?

  6. Watch Out! Time never stops and once it’s gone you can’t get it back. It is infinite ( never ending) and cruel.

  7. Tick, Tick, Tick….. The minute hand goes around every hour. When the minute hand is on the 12, the hour hand is pointing exactly at an hour. When it on the 6, it is called “half-past” the hour. When the minute hand points to the 3, it has gone a quarter of the way around and so it’s “a quarter past” the hour.

  8. Let’s tell some time! Listen to your teacher and follow her directions to make your own clock!

  9. Ready, set, go!!!! Show me 1:00 on your clock. Now show me half past 3:00. Can you show 9 and a quarter hours?

  10. Now that you have the basics let’s get tricky! Let’s say it’s 5:00pm and a movie is about to start, if the movie is 90 minutes long, what time will the movie be over at? Show me on your clock.

  11. Here’s another one. On early release Wednesdays, school starts at 7:45 am and students get out at 12:00. How long is the school day?

  12. Last easy one. If you went home and played a video game from 6:15pm until your bed time at 9:00, how much time did you spend playing video games?

  13. We are almost finished • You are an amazing time machine!!!

  14. Sometimes time is not so even. On the 4th of July the fireworks started at dusk which happened to be 10:17pm and the fireworks ended at 11:06pm. How long were the fireworks?

  15. Time Management is Important! Every morning I wake up at 4:43am. and then I get Blake up at 6: 13 am. How long am I up before I wake Blake up?

  16. T.O.T.D. • Our time is up for today. Now, how much time do you have left in your school day?
