  1. Regional Association VI, Forum Hydrology, Koblenz May 8 – 10, 2012 Statements of the national hydrological service of Lithuania Hydrology Forum Koblenz, May 8-10, 2012

  2. Hydrology division Hydrometeorological stations Hydrological stations Water measurement stations Organization, role and main tasks Main tasks : • To perform hydrological observations and to participate in the state environmental monitoring programme; • Collect and analyze hydrological data. Provide data to national and international databases; • Prepare hydrological forecasts and issue warnings. Hydrology Forum Koblenz, May 8-10, 2012

  3. Biggest success • Modernization of measurement network. Number of hydrological stations increased by one third. • More detailed spatial and temporal data (continuous hourly measurements) now available for the general public. Hydrology Forum Koblenz, May 8-10, 2012

  4. Biggest failure • Number of control discharge measurements decreased by one third due to reduced financing. • The technical support for the network is not sufficient and it causes dissatisfaction of personnel during daily operations. Hydrology Forum Koblenz, May 8-10, 2012

  5. Expectations • To update existing database and create convenient and more open excess to the data for the end users. • Implementing EU Directive (2007/60/EB) on the assessment and management of flood risks LHMS would appreciate methodological input and sharing experience on the flood forecasting and warning issuing. Hydrology Forum Koblenz, May 8-10, 2012
