Population:10,524,145 • Language: Portuguese • Average climate: In the north, an oceanic climate prevails: cool summers and rainy winters (average rainfall 125–150 cm/50–60 in annually), with occasional snowfall. Central Portugal has hot summers and cool, rainy winters, with 50–75 cm (20–30 in) average annual rainfall. • Weather patterns: Lisbon is a hot and sunny all year round destination, with short, mild winters and long hot summers. Its coastal location means that sea breezes have a cooling effect in peak summer months. • Popular food: fresh fish and shellfish salted cod pork sardines and horse mackerel lobsters, shrimp, oysters, and crabs. soup bread psalteries cheese desserts • Popular music: Rock, pop, house and hip hop
