  1. HSIP 1310-01-02/72 STH 50 Intersection with CTH D Reconstruction, Preservation LET: 02/10/2015 PSE: 08/01/2014 PM: Brian Pluemer

  2. Project Location CTH D STH 50

  3. Project Overview Intersection has had a high number of right angle crashes. There is a vertical curve 600ft to the east of the intersection with CTH D which may be a factor in drivers on CTH D misjudging speed of vehicles on STH 50. The median allows for refuge of one vehicle but drivers attempt to traverse the entire roadway. Connecting Highway: No Long Truck Route: Yes NHS Highway: Yes Oversize/Overweight Route: (OSOW): Yes; Primary

  4. Pavement Recommendation • Match existing pavement structure on STH 50 or CTH D depending on work location. • Minimize reconstruction as much as possible in intersection area.

  5. Traffic Volumes • Current Traffic Volumes • STH 50 (2008) AADT 18500

  6. Proposed Improvement • J-turn type intersection • Restricts movements to left turns only for traffic on STH 50 turning onto CTH D • Restricts traffic on CTH D to only making right turns onto STH 50 • Then allows for U-turns at appropriate median openings for traffic from CTH D that either wanted to go left or through.
