Background • Development and relief agencies recognized the important role played by data and information in mitigating impact of disasters; • Decisions-makers need better information on where to invest and how to design sustainable project; • Lack of clear and accessible information remains a major obstacle to further improving the implementation of effective policies; • Numerous disaster data compilation exist but their visibility and access limited.

  4. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  5. Aims The portal aims at facilitating the access to this valuable information by providing to the international community with a centralised entry-point to existing disaster data compilation

  6. Objectives Provide an updated list of international, national and sub-national disaster loss data collection initiatives Provide a short summary of these initiatives Provide the international community with centralized online access Provide centralized referral services to researchers and other persons or organizations interested in the compilation or analysis of disaster data

  8. Context of the project Supported by USAID/OFDA Project Leader: CRED Partner: GRIP-UNDP Component of the Global Risk Identification Program, GRIP/UNDP activities « Enhanced Loss Data » CRED : in charge of the development of the portal GRIP/UNDP: further development

Content Provide complete description of each data collection initiative, objectives, content and hosting institution and relevant contact details Different search tools allow browsing and searching for specific information: Text search (specificterms) Dynamic map-based tool (intuitive geographical exploration function) Advanced tool (multi-criteria search)

  11. Content Nowadays, DISDAT contains: 66 registered databases 15 of which are Global, 43National,2Supra-national, and 4Sub-national
