Student Absent Policy Student absences this year will be reported by parents to the email address: upattendance@hpisd.org Without an email, the student’s absence will NOT be excused but will show as an unexcused absence. If you would like to add Mrs. Williams or me to the email, that is fine. However, the office shares this information with us.

  6. 4TH GRADE DISCIPLINE POLICY Conduct Sheet Conduct sheets are to be kept in the Take Home folder for the duration of the nine weeks. At the end of the nine weeks, students will be given a new one. Each time a student chooses not to follow classroom guidelines/expectations, the teacher will make note of it on the calendar with a notation of what rule was broken. When a student receives 2 marks, he/she will lose a FUN DAY letter. The letters FUN DAY are on the bottom of the conduct sheet and students must have at least one letter remaining at the end of the nine weeks to attend the Fun Friday Party. Parents are expected to sign the conduct sheet over the weekend for students to return the following Monday.

  7. 4TH GRADE HOMEWORK POLICY If Homework is Not Complete • Student receives mark on Conduct Sheet and is expected to bring completed assignment the following school day. • If homework is not returned the following day, the infraction will be recorded again on the conduct sheet. • The missing or late assignment will be recorded on the Conduct Sheet until it is either made up or turned in. For every 2 marks on the conduct sheet, the student will lose a FUN DAY letter. REMEMBER: Marks on the conduct sheet include effort and behavioral related infractions.

  8. Math, Science, and Texas History HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS • Math – Daily Homework Sheet (Monday – Thursday) Students should have multiplication and division math facts up to 12x12 memorized • Science/Texas History - Unit projects throughout the year. • Some will require work at home, such as Ancestor Project in November If your student is absent or has unfinished work, it will be assigned for homework.

  9. REPORT CARDS Click the link below to view HPISD’s report card guides (K-4) and an informational video about HPISD’s standard-based report cards. Report cards can be viewed on Skyward each nine weeks. http://curriculum.hpisd.org/Resources/ReportCards.aspx

  10. Forgotten Items Statement below is from the Handbook: In an effort to protect instructional time by minimizing classroom disruptions the office will only accept MEDICINE, COATS, JACKETS, SHOES, AND EYEGLASSES to deliver to a student. Lunches, snacks, water bottles are not accepted. If your child forgets their lunch, you may bring it to them at their lunch time (11:45), or they may purchase a lunch at school.

  11. Birthday Treats Policy - See the statement below from the Handbook Parents may no longer bring birthday treats during the school day. Food treats such as cupcakes as well as non-food items are now prohibited from being distributed to classes in recognition of a child’s birthday. A parent may bring a birthday treat for his/her own child to help celebrate a student’s birthday to the cafeteria. However, a parent may not bring a treat for any student other than his/her own child. This policy has been adopted by all four elementary schools in HPISD as well as MIS. This decision was made based on feedback from parents, teachers, and the Student Health Advisory Committee.

  12. Student Cell Phone Policy/Fitbit/Apple Watch Students may use the office phone in the case of an emergency with a note from their teacher. Students may bring cellphones to school for the purposes of safety only. Use of cell phones during the school day may disrupt teaching and the learning environment. They are to remain turned off, and inside backpacks. Cell phones are not allowed to be used while the child is in the custody of the HPISD unless given specific permission by a staff member. • If a cell phone rings or if a student is using one without permission, UP staff will follow this protocol: confiscate it and send it to the office. After the first infractions: the student may pick up the item at the end of the school day • Second infraction: a parent must pick up the item • Third infraction: the item will be stored for pick-up after the last day of school. The school will not be responsible for any lost, stolen, damaged, or confiscated phones, or for usage fees resulting from such confiscation.
