California state law AB354 requires all students entering 7th through 12th grades to provide proof of a TDAP booster shot before starting school. Make sure to provide your elementary school with your student's immunization records.

Mandatory TDAP Booster Shot BEFORE starting El Cerrito Middle School… • Please make sure you provide your elementary school with your student’s immunization records which should include proof of TDAP. • California state law AB354 states: All students entering 7th through 12th grades need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (TDAP) BEFORE STARTING school. • You must give proof of TDAP immunization to your current CNUSD elementary school.

School-WideAchievement Goals • Achieve 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher with no D’s or F’s. • Maintain 97% attendance, which includes not being tardy to class. • Perform in the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ) in each area of the California Physical Fitness Test. • Earn Citizenship grades that are Satisfactory or Outstanding. • High level of achievement on state testing.

Standards for Participation in School-Wide Events • Achieve a 2.0 GPA or higher with no D’s or F’s. • Maintain Satisfactory attendance, which includes not being tardy to class. • Satisfactory attendance means missing less than 5% of the total amount of school days, which is approximately four days per semester. • Earn Citizenship grades that are Satisfactory or Outstanding

What is Pre-Advanced Placement? • Pre-AP is not a prerequisite for AP courses • It is preparation for courses such as: AP, Honors, International Baccalaureate (IB), and Accelerated Pre-AP prepares students • …for rigorous coursework in high school and beyond • …to work towards developing strong study skills • …skills towards college and career readiness

Pre-AP Courses • Are Optional • Designed for academically talented and highly motivated students prepared to work at an accelerated pace. • Challenging classes: rigorous assignments, greater depth, inquiry, analysis, research–based strategies, critical thinking, problem solving, and mastery. • Select one or more subject: Language Arts, History, Science • Mathematics is based on Math Placement Test & SBAC scores.

AVID Applications • Sixth grade teachers have applications • AVID table has application • Have a 6th grade Math or Language Arts teacher fill out the recommendation page • Applications should be returned on the day of the AVID interview ***in person!*** • All AVID interviews will be conducted at El Cerrito Middle school

What AVID does • AVID teaches students strategies to become academically successful independent of teacher, parent and class goals. • we share challenges, problem solve and apply solutions that have the student rely on the tools taught rather than the assistance of a teacher, tutor or parent. • AVID helps the students to seek assistance, assist themselves, use recourses available and adopt a positive can-do attitude.

ORIENTATION DAY! • Orientation day will be in August (TBD) • Information will be mailed home in June/July • School phone message broadcasts go out on Sunday’s at 5:00 pm • On orientation day you have an opportunity to purchase an ASB discount card and PE clothes, get a preliminary schedule, tour the campus and much more.
