  • Authorized Employees are the only ones certified to lock and tagout equipment or machinery. Authorized Employees are designated and receive extensive training.

    • NYMC Employees who are not designated and trained are not authorized employees.

  • Affected Employees are the people who usually operate the machines or equipment for which lockout or tagging out is sometimes necessary

    • i.e: person who goes to use an elevator.

Policies and procedures l.jpg
Policies and Procedures

  • LOTO is used to ensure that work can be performed safely on machinery/equipment without risk of sustaining injury due to re-energization.

  • When LOTO is used, someone’s safety or life is on the line.

  • The person who applies the lock/tag is the ONLY person who can remove it.

    • NEVER remove a lock or a tag, even if it has been there for several weeks!
