  1. District-Wide Rezonings Middle Schools February 18, 2014

  2. Millington MS & Woodstock MSto Jeter K-8 • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 71% • Current enrollment plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 63% • Other proposed rezonings to Jeter include E. A. Harrold ES • Utilization with ALL above students = 80% • Utilization with current enrollment plus 65% of above students = 70% Academic Data

  3. Millington MS & Woodstock MSto Jeter K-8 • Distance • Millington area to Jeter K-8: 7.9 miles Transportation Comments Due to the fact that only an estimated 80-85 middle school students reside within this remote area, it will be necessary to actively recruit more middle schoolers to attend Jeter and ensure the presence of a viable middle school population. EE Jeter performs considerably better academically than the Sending Schools, namely Millington MS and Woodstock MS.

  4. Shadowlawn MS to Woodstock MS • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 91% • Current enrollment plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 80% Academic Data

  5. Shadowlawn MS to Woodstock MS • Distance • Shadowlawn MS area to Woodstock MS: 8.6 mile Transportation Comments At the elementary level, students who live in this area attend Lucy ES and this is simply in conformance with the established Lucy-Woodstock feeder pattern at the middle school level. Moreover, at 60% utilization, Woodstock has more classroom space and can better accommodate the entire cohort in comparison to Raleigh-Egypt MS and Craigmont MS which are both operating in excess of 80 to 85% utilization. Woodstock MS is also a better performing school than either Raleigh-Egypt MS or Craigmont MS.

  6. Shadowlawn MS to Barret’s K-8 • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 72% • Current enrollment plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 66% • Other proposed rezonings to Barret’s include Rivercrest ES & Arlington MS • Utilization will ALL above students = 117% • Utilization with current enrollment plus 65% of above students = 95% Academic Data

  7. Shadowlawn MS to Barret’s K-8 • Distance • Shadowlawn MS area to Barret’s K-8: 14.4 miles Transportation Comments This enables us to align the middle school zone designated for Barret’s K-8 with the elementary school zone designated for Barret’s K-8. Consequently, older siblings can accompany their elementary school brothers and sisters to school. While Barret’s clearly outperforms Shadowlawn, it is important to note this is the comparison of a middle school’s academic performance with that of an elementary school.

  8. 307 students to Dexter MS

  9. Shadowlawn MS to Dexter MS • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 68% • Current enrollment plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 49% Academic Data

  10. Shadowlawn MS to Dexter MS • Distance • Shadowlawn MS area to Dexter MS: 8.4 miles Transportation Comments Once again, aligning the middle school zone designated for Dexter MS with the elementary school area designated for Dexter ES so that siblings can accompany their younger siblings to elementary school. It is significant to note that Dexter ES has higher academic scores than Shadowlawn MS. Even after the addition of students from the Shadowlawn zone to Dexter MS, Dexter MS will still possess adequate space to accomplish another merger.

  11. (Rural Reserve)

  12. Arlington MS (rural area residents) to Barret’s K-8 • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 70% • Current enrollment plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 65% • Other proposed rezonings to Barret’s include Rivercrest ES & Shadowlawn MS • Utilization will ALL above students = 117% • Utilization with current enrollment plus 65% of above students = 95% Academic Data

  13. Arlington MS (rural area residents) to Barret’s K-8 • Distance • Students live in rural area around school; currently bused to Arlington MS Transportation Comments As with EE Jeter, the rural residential area surrounding Barret’s is very sparsely populated. The rezoning of students from the Rivercrest zone to the Barret’s K-8 zone will fortify the size of the student population here and enable a more viable K-8 academic program. While Barret’s performs better in Math and is comparable in RLA proficiency rates, it is again important to acknowledge that this a comparison of an elementary school’s performance with that of a middle school.

  14. Riverdale MS (South Cordova) to Germantown MS • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 98% • Current enrollment plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 91% • Other proposed rezonings to Germantown MS include Schilling Farms MS • Utilization will ALL above students = 101% • Utilization with current enrollment plus 65% of above students = 94% Academic Data

  15. Riverdale MS (South Cordova) to Germantown MS • Distance • South Cordova to Germantown MS: 6.5 miles Transportation Comments All So. Cordova residents will be able to attend Germantown MS. This will ensure that all remain in the Germantown HS feeder pattern as they are presently. Riverdale K-8 and Germantown MS are generally comparable in their academic proficiency rates.

  16. Schilling Farms MS to Germantown MS • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 81% • Current enrollment plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 80% • Other proposed rezonings to Germantown MS include Riverdale MS • Utilization will ALL above students = 101% • Utilization with current enrollment plus 65% of above students = 94% Academic Data

  17. Schilling Farms MS to Germantown MS • Distance • Schilling Farms area to Germantown MS: 4.8 miles Transportation Comments Germantown MS is the SCS school in closest proximity to Schilling Farms and would be the Receiver School in the event that any of these 25 students chose or were required to attend an SCS school.

  18. Collierville MS to Mt. Pisgah MS • Utilization • Current enrollment plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 45% Academic Data

  19. Collierville MS to Mt. Pisgah MS • Distance • Collierville MS area to Mt. Pisgah MS: 5.9 miles Transportation Comments Mt. Pisgah MS is the SCS school in closest proximity to Collierville MS and would be the Receiver School in the event that any of these 9 students chose or were required to attend an SCS school. It is anticipated that Mt. Pisgah will remain underutilized for the short term.

  20. Fairview MS to Hamilton MS & Sherwood MS • Utilization • Current enrollment of Hamilton plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 38% • Current enrollment of Hamilton plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 32% • Current enrollment of Sherwood plus ALL rezoned reserve area students = 76% • Current enrollment of Sherwood plus 65% of rezoned reserve area students = 67% Academic Data

  21. Fairview MS to Hamilton MS & Sherwood MS • Distance • Fairview MS area to Hamilton MS: 3.2 miles • Fairview MS area to Sherwood MS: 5.5 miles Transportation Comments The aim here is to design Fairview MS as an Optional School without and attendance zone. Hamilton MS and Sherwood MS are both Izone schools. These two (2) schools are being proposed as the two Receivers for students currently living within the Fairview zone since they are the two nearest SCS schools with room to accommodate the entire cohort.
