Proposal School District Adoption of District Wide Research Model Presented By Bobbie Selan Brittainy Simmons Rossana Munoz
What is the Big6?Developed by educators Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, the Big6 is the most widely-known and widely-used approach to teaching information and technology skills in the world.
Why do we need to use a research model? • We are in the middle of an "information explosion” With so much information available, Students and teachers must know not only how to access the information but also know what to do with the information once it is found. This is called "Information Literacy“ (Eisenberg & Berkowitz) . • The Big6 approach improves teaching and learning, reduces anxiety, and increases confidence according to educators who use the Big6 Approach for information problem-solving
Who will use the Big 6? • All the students and teachers and parents in the district. • Students should be able to draw on their knowledge of this process and use it to make good decisions based on information
It is the Right Thing To Do • The Big Six Skills approach can be used whenever students are in a situation, academic or personal, which requires information to solve a problem, make a decision or complete a task. • This model is transferable to school, personal, and work applications, as well as all content areas and the full range of grade levels. • When taught collaboratively with content area teachers in concert with content-area objectives, it serves to ensure that students are information literate.
Decision • The Big6 Skills™ is a "big picture" look at the process of research. It is a model that was developed by Michael Eisenberg and Robert Berkowitz. • The Big Six™ identifies six major steps used in solving any kind of information problem.
