  2. Best Practices • What we were looking for? • innovative actions, initiatives, resources or regulations • Where we were looking for them? • – in the city of Cracow • – in Małopolska region • in all Poland

Best Practices • Area 1 - Flexible labour alternatives • What we identified: • SMEs usually are not very likely to introduce flexible arrangements • staff policy supporting conciliation is more popular within multinational companies • Our choices: • 1. One SME implementing flexible work arrangements, • 2. National competition for „Mother friendly company” • We are still looking for example of best practise of conciliationpolicy among big Polish companies

Best Practices • Area 2 - Distribution of responsibilities within the family • the initiatives promoting equal distribution of responsibilitiesare not very popular in Poland, • there are no local activities in this area in Cracow, • there are more and more young families which care about equal distribution of family responsibilities • Our choice: • 1. National program „To be a parent”; two campaigns „Dad and me” and „“To be a Dad is an everyday job”.

Best Practices • Area 3 - Resources in support of real conciliation • - there are more and more local initiatives, especially in the area of alternative child care, • - some of the initiatives are supported by diverse institutions and persons (different sectors and funds), • Our choices: • “A garden for mother and child” • „Lets”(time bank) - exchange of services promoted among women intended to reintegrate

Best Practice 1 • Example of good relationship • between employer and employees • Permanent consultation between the employer and the employee — the initiative of the employee, • Financed from the company’s own sources • (economical costs – uncountable benefits), • Case of employee — sales representative —woman who informed her employer of being pregnant.

  9. Best Practice 1 Implemented solutions: Tele-work before childbirth— continuity of communication with the customers and co-workers, Part-time work after completing maternity leave, Consultations of all undertaken measures.

  10. Best Practice 1 • Two perspectives: • Needs of employer: • constant and appropriate high quality level of customer service • building the employees’ sense of loyalty and responsibility for tasks performed

  12. Best Practice 1 • Three vital conditions • that allowed to implement this kind of solution: • the employer’s flexibility, • the employee’s willingness to work, • the employee’s job characteristics, • mutual trust.

  18. Best Practices • “Dad and I” • campaign implemented in 2004 • „Dads’ coalition” • inspiring fathers to search own ways of being a dad • presentation of various ways of spending time with children, • teaching fathers the art of conversation and keeping good contact with children

  19. Best Practice 2 • “To be a Dad is an everyday job” campaign has been implemented in 2006 • the competition for the best ways of spending time with your child, • drawing attention to the child’s needs to be with their dad, • promoting good ways of spending time with children.

Best Practice 3 • OBJECTIVES: • assistance to parents looking after new-born babies, • creating a meeting place for parents of the youngest children, • integrating local community, • preparing children and parents for the child’s entering kindergarten, • developing local support network for families.
