  11. Bible Symbols Beasts: The term “Beasts” represents Kingdoms. “Those great beasts, which are four, are four kings . . .” (Dan 7:17) These kings represent 4 major kingdoms as indicated in the following verse “The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all other kingdoms . . . ”(Dan 7:23)

  12. Bible Symbols Horns: Represent kingdoms springing up from the fourth “beast” kingdom, “The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom.”(Dan 7:24)

  13. 1st Beast - Like a Lion • Assyria / Babylon: • “Israel is like scattered sheep; The lions have driven him away. First the king of Assyria devoured him; Now at last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.”(Jeremiah 50:17) • Wings plucked off: • Man’s heart given to the lion:

  14. 2nd Beast - Like a Bear • Medo-Persia: • It was raised up on one side - First ruled by the Medes but then dominated by the Persians. (cp Dan 8:20 - “One horn was higher than the other”) • Three ribs in its mouth - The three regions conquered (Egypt, Lydia & Babylon) which were ruled by three governors - see Dan 6:2). • It devoured much flesh: • Referring to the large territories • it conquered.

  19. 10 horns of the 4th Beast The Beast (before 476AD):

  20. 10 horns of the 4th Beast The Beast (after 476AD):

  21. A Very Important Point! How long will the 4th Beast last for? (see Dan 7:11, 21-22, 26-27) Answer: Until the coming of Jesus Christ

  22. Book of Revelation - Some points • A book of signs & symbols.(see Rev 1:1) • Prophecy of events from 96AD to the Return of Jesus and beyond. • The beasts referred to in the book of Revelation are the various phases of the 4th Beast in Daniel.

  23. Bible Echoes - Daniel/Revelation • 4th Beast in Daniel 7 • Rose from the sea(v3) • Had 10 horns(v7) • Incorporated the dominions of Lion, Bear & Leopard. • Had a mouth speaking great words against God(v25) • Made war with the saints(v21) • Torments for 1260 days(v25) • Beast in Revelation 13 • Rose from the sea(v1) • Had 10 horns(v1) • Had characteristics of a leopard, Bear’s feet, Lions mouth(v2) • Had a mouth speaking blasphemy(v5) • Made war with the saints (v7) • Torments for 42 months(v5)

  24. Book of Revelation - The Woman • Woman represents the Church (Ecclesia) - “For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ”(2Cor11:2) The woman becomes corrupted: - Pure to begin with. (2 Cor 11:2) - No longer a virgin - is with child. (Rev 12:2) - Became a Harlot who rides on the beast. (Rev 17:1-6, 9, 18:9)

  25. The Little Horn of the Beast “ I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words. ”(Dan 7:8)

  26. Identifying the Little Horn • “ Another horn – a little one ”(Dan 7:8) • This 11th horn was to come up among the other 10 horns, representing a major power which would be centred in Europe after the division of Rome in 476AD.

  27. Identifying the Little Horn It was different to the other horns (Dan 7:8) This horn had eyes and a mouth (v8) which made it different. It spoke pompous words against the Most High (Dan 7:25) This statement indicates that this horn is a Religious power. The only power in history which answers to this description is that of the Papacy, culminating in what was known as the Holy Roman Empire.

  28. The Holy Roman Empire in the 9th Century A.D.

  29. Identifying the Little Horn More Evidence It came up among the other horns(Dan 7:8) This occurred in the year 529AD which was after the 10 horns had emerged. The Papacy had its true beginning in Europe when the Roman Emperor Justinian (based in the East at Constantinople) proclaimed the Bishop of Rome as "Universal" (Catholic) bishop.

  30. Identifying the Little Horn More Evidence Its appearance was greater than the other horns (Dan7:20) This new horn actually became greater than all the other horns. The Papacy reached its climax during the period of "The Holy Roman Empire". This took place when the Frankish (German) King, Charlemagne was crowned "Emperor" by Pope Leo III in the year 799AD. This made the Pope and the Emperor co-rulers in the Holy Roman Empire". This large kingdom lasted for 1000 years declining after the French Revolution.

  31. Identifying the Little Horn More Evidence It plucked 3 of the 10 Horns (Dan 7:8) The Papacy, in the name of God, influenced armies to destroy any religious and political opposition to it. The three horns destroyed (all which had Arian beliefs) were: - The Vandals by Justinian in 534AD. - The Ostrogoths by Justinian in 555AD. - The Lombards by Charlemagne in 774AD.

  32. Identifying the Little Horn More Evidence It would persecute the saints of the Most High (Dan 7:25) The Papacy, with the backing of the Holy Roman Empire, tortured and put to death anyone who opposed its teaching. The "Spanish Inquisition" and the Massacre of the Hugenots in France in 1572AD were just some examples of this persecution.

  33. It would make war on the saints

  34. It would make war on the saints

  35. It would make war on the saints “And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus . . .” (Rev 17:6) William Tyndale - Strangled and burned for translating the Bible into English.

  36. Rome identified “ And here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sits. ” (Rev 17:9) The Seven Hills of Rome: Capitoline, Quirinal, Viminal, Esquiline, Caelian, Aventine, and Palatine hills

  37. The Number of the Beast “ Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. “ (Revelation 13:18) • Vicarivs Filii Dei(Latin - “Vicar of the Son of God“) • 5+1+100+0+0+1+5+0 +0+1+50+1+1 +500+0+1 = 666 • Lateinos (Greek - “Latin Man”) • 30+1+300+5+10+50+70+200 = 666 • Dux Cleri(Latin - Signature of the Pope) • 500+5+10+100+50+0+0+1 = 666

  38. Future War - Christ vs the 4th Beast “ I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame.” (Dan 7:11) Fulfilment in Revelation: “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. . . . These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”(Rev 17:13-15)

  39. The Kingdom of God is established “ Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him ” (Dan 7:27) Bible Echo “ The Kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever! ”(Revelation 11:15)
