  4. Prevent Constipation with Fiber & Fluids • Fruits, vegetables and whole grains = FIBER • Fill half your plate with vegetables at meals.

  5. Prevent Constipation with Fiber & Fluids • Choose fruits for snacks. • Fiber goal = 25-35 grams/day. • Drink 48-64 ounces of water or unsweetened beverages per day

  6. Preserve Muscles Prevent Pressure Ulcers with Adequate Protein • Protein is found in meat, poultry, eggs, fish, tofu, beans and nuts or nut butters. • Try to choose non-meat proteins at least once a day. • Beans are also excellent fiber.

  7. Choose lean or low-fat meats. Fish twice a week is good for your heart health. • Avoid fried foods. • 6 ounces of protein foods/day should be adequate unless there is skin breakdown

  8. To Prevent Excess Weight GainControl Calories • Choose water or unsweetened beverages. • Choose lean meats, avoid fried foods. • Control portions, eat on a 9 inch plate.

  9. Use healthy plate method with half plate of vegetables to reduce calories, but stay full. • Avoid snacking on processed snacks that are high in fat, sugar and salt…choose fruit, nuts or whole grains.
