Teachers will learn strategies to prepare students for the Biology EOC so that all students have the opportunity to be successful. • Teachers will understand the history and direction of high stakes assessments in science. • Teachers will identify ALL resources that are available to support Biology EOC prep through assessment, instruction and curriculum. • Teams of teachers will begin to prepare tools to use in the classroom, which will provide students with multiple opportunities to practice. • Teachers will identify the strengths and limitations of existing data tools that can provide information about student learning. Graduation Requirements: Class of 2015 and Beyond • Must pass reading and writing HSPE’s, 2 math and the biology EOC • Winter (January/February) 2013 • 10th graders who took EOC as 9th graders in spring 2012 and did not meet standard • Students completing a biology course mid-year • Spring 2013 • Any student (class of 2015+) enrolled in a high school level biology course • All 10th graders who have not yet met standard • Meets the high school science testing requirement of NCLB • 9th grade scores from 2012 were banked for NCLB Who Takes the Biology EOC?

Next Generation Science Standards Updates • Public draft of the Next Generation Science Standards Development are due out in December. • Final draft due out Spring 2012 • Adopted by the state of Washington by 2014 (estimated) • State assessment aligned to new standards 2017 (estimated) • Consider how Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) will impact current teaching practices.
