  2. Group Questions Why is anxiety so common in our culture – in our daily activities, in advertising, in news reports? How does the Bible’s teaching about anxiety contradict what modern culture teaches about it? Modern American culture labels anxiety a “disorder” or a “disease”, yet the Bible seems to call anxiety “sin”. What do you think about this? How does the way we define anxiety relate to how we will treat it? What kinds of circumstances tempt you to anxiety? What kinds of circumstances tempt you to frustration? Where does discontentment crop up in your life?

  3. Anxiety A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.

  4. Worry A synonym for anxiety. However, it tends to be associated “with more long-term difficult or painful circumstances for which there appears to be no resolution.

  5. Frustration It is the feeling of being upset or annoyed especially because you do not have the ability to change or achieve something you would like to change or achieve It is being upset or angry at someone or something for getting in the way of our plans.

  6. Matthew 6:25-34 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?...

  7. Matthew 6:25-34 ? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?‘…

  8. Matthew 6:25-34 or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

  9. Philippians 4:6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God

  10. 1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you

  11. John MacArthur Think about it this way: Christians who worry believe God can redeem them, break the shackles of Satan, take them from hell to heaven, put them into His kingdom, and give them eternal life, but just don't think He can get them through the next couple of days. That is pretty ridiculous, isn't it? That we can believe God for the greater gift and then stumble and not believe Him for the lesser one reveals an embarrassing lack of faith

  12. Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit

  13. Providence God’s orchestrating all circumstances and event in His universe for His glory and the good of His people.

  14. Jerry Bridges My anger is (often) triggered not so much by a distrust in God as by an unwillingness to submit to and cheerfully accept His agenda for me.

  15. John Newton How happy are they who can resign all to him, see his hand in every dispensation, and believe that he chooses better for them than they possibly could for themselves!

  16. Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them

  17. Jerry Bridges This circumstance is a part of Your plan for my life today. Help me to respond in faith and in a God-honoring way to Your providential will. And then please give me wisdom to know how to address the situation that tends to cause the frustration.
