How Does The Gospel Help Us Deal with Our Sin?

The Gospel FREES us to see our sin
The Gospel MOTIVATES us to deal with our sin

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
We are responsible before God to obey His Word, to put to death the sins in our lives, both the so-called acceptable sins and the obviously not acceptable ones. At the same time, we do not have the ability within ourselves to carry out this responsibility. We are in fact totally dependent upon the enabling power of the Holy Spirit. In this sense, we are both Dependent and Responsible.
… he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ

Works Through our Consciences
Empowers Us to Deal With Our Sin
Brings Into Our Lives Circumstances that Challenge Us
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure
If we are prone to sinful anger, there will be circumstances that trigger our anger. If we tend to be judgemental toward others, we will probably have plenty of opportunities to be judgemental. If we easily become anxious, there will be ample opportunities to deal with the sin of anxiety. God does not tempt us, but He does bring or allow circumstances to come into our lives that give us opportunity to put to death particular subtle sins

…and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith--

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
– Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working…
