  1. Bareford & Foster’s News Flash March Parents: The school year continues to rush along at an alarmingly fast pace. We are already half way through this 9 weeks. First, we would like to thank all of the families for participating in our One book One school, The World According to Humphrey activities. We have enjoyed coming together as a community around a book. The students enjoyed the trivia questions and having Humphrey come visit us for a day. Next, please continue to practice math skills. Most students need extra work counting money. Any additional help in this area would be great. We are also starting to work on reading time and adding and subtracting with regrouping. These skills are also difficult skills for some students. The more practice the better. There are a lot of games online for students to practice. Lastly, we are focusing on higher level thinking with regards to reading. Students had a hard time with the last 9 weeks test because the questions were more rigorous, similar to what they will be seeing on 3rd grade SOL tests. We are working on strategies to get students to go back and reread, as well as picture what they are reading, and question about what they think will happen next. Some students look at a reading and get overwhelmed with the questions and others rush through. Please encourage your child to take his / her time and believe in themselves. Your child’s agenda is the best way for us to have constant communication; however, you can always reach me via email at tfoster@kwcps.k12.va.us or leave a message on voicemail at the school (769-3434x146). Please be aware that I check email throughout the day but voicemail only at the end of the day.
