  3. Third Grade Day • 8:45 – 9:00- Arrival, attendance, lunch count, pledge, announcements, and choice activities • 9:00- 9:15- World Knowledge • 9:15 – 10:00- Special Class • 10:00 – 11:00- Math, utilizing the MathExpressions series • 11:00- Snack • 11:00 – 12:30- Literacy block, utilizing Story Town • 12:30– 1:00- Panther Power • 1:00 – 1:45- Recess and Lunch • 1:45 – 2:30 – ELA • 2:30 – 3:15- Science and Social Studies • 3:20- Announcements and Dismissal process

  4. Special Classes • Monday- Gym Don’t forget to wear tennis shoes. • Tuesday- Art • Wednesday- Music • Thursday- LibraryDon’t forget your library books. • Friday- Computers

  5. Snack Please send a healthy nut-free snack with your child each day. The following are some suggestions: • Pretzels • Fruit and/or vegetables • Crackers • Granola bars • Cereal • Popcorn • Rice Cakes • 100 calorie packs • String cheese • Raisins

  6. Math Expressions • Please look for the Parent Letters to come home throughout each unit. These will keep you informed about the way your child is learning math and how to best help him/her at home. • Homework will come home most evenings. Please check your child’s folder and planner each night.

  7. Flexible Grouping • Students will be pre-tested on each math unit. • They will then be placed in groups according to their needs. • In a few weeks, your child may or may not have a different third grade teacher for math instruction. • Your child’s teacher may change with each unit of instruction based on pre-test data.

  8. Story Town • Please look for the School-Home Connection Letter each week. This letter contains focus skills, spelling words and vocabulary words for the week. • The testing date will be on your child’s study guide which come home at the start of each new lesson. • Please use the study guide to review the different skills taught each week.

  9. PSSA Testing • Third grade is the first your your child will be taking the PSSA state testing. • Your child will be assessed in reading and math skills which have been taught in grades K-3. • Testing will take place the week of April 13th. • We will remind your child to eat a healthy breakfast that week, and to get plenty of rest! • More information will come as we approach that date.

  11. Panther Power • Panther Power time is built into each day. • During this time the teacher will work to re-teach, remediate and enrich students both individually and in small groups as necessary.

  12. Lunch with your child • You are welcome to have lunch with your child a maximum of one time per month. • Please call in advance to let the cafeteria know you are coming and send a note to the teacher at least one day ahead. • The kitchen phone number is 724-733-5969. • Please reference the handbook for additional details.

  13. birthdays We would love to celebrate with your child!! • You are welcome to send in a treat for the class. We have 20students in our class. Please let the teacher know what day is best. • If your child has a summer birthday, we can celebrate his/her half birthday or wait until the end of the year. • Treats can be left with the greeter if they are too much for your child to carry.

  14. Parent Teacher Conferences Conference Day is Friday, November 7th. Please sign up this evening for a time that is convenient.
