  1. Phase Conjugation in Silicon waveguide Xiujian Li Dec.22, 2011

  2. 1. What’s phase conjugation First proposed by Va. Zel'dovich and his colleagues in Moscow in 1972, with stimulated Brillouin scattering effect. Firstly, main applications in free space (spatial): The forward and the backward light have the same wavefront.

  3. 2. Applications of phase conjugation • Adaptive Optics; • Lensless Imaging; • Generating "Time-reversed" Light; • Phase-Conjugate Resonators; • Image processing; • Associative memory; • Frequency effect/ shift; • Time-Domain Applications (dispersion and nonlinear effect compensation).

  4. 3. Time- and Spectral-Phase conjugation

  5. 4. Phase conjugation and Four-Wave Mixing

  6. 5. Implement Hu, H., et al.. Optics Letters, 2010. 35(17): p. 2867-2869.

  7. 6. Next step • Design the parameters based on Silicon nano-waveguide; • Design the experimental setup based on current setup (for compression, SPM, and CPM); • Observe the frequency distribution via OSA; • Observe the phase distribution via FROG / X-FROG. • Associated with phase noise and timing jitter.

  8. 7. Referenced setup
