My Family Background • Married to Randy for 27 years • Pastoring the Haltom City Christian Church for 12 years • 2 lovely daughters • Savannah is a college graduate working for Communities in Schools in West Texas • Makalah is a Junior at Lubbock Christian University studying Youth Ministry and Family Counseling.

  3. My Professional Background • Teaching for 21 years ; 18 of those in Birdville ISD; 3 in Ector County ISD (West Texas) • Bachelor’s Degree from University of Texas Permian Basin • Master’s Degree from Grand Canyon University in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Reading

  4. Students in my room have opportunities to receive one to one, or small group, attention to their individual concerns with the goal of raising their reading fluency and comprehension to beyond grade level requirements.

  5. Is that a bad thing? Smaller class sizes and more focused instruction is NEVER a bad thing

  6. Student Responsibilities Classroom Rules • 1. Be polite in words and deeds. • 2. Cell phones and electronic devices are off and put away. • 3. Work on English and Reading from bell to bell. • 4. Bring your binder and independent reading book to class everyday. NRMS and BISD rules will also be observed in my classroom.

  7. Student Responsibilities I say to the kids, “If you choose to break a rule, you choose to accept the consequences.”

  8. Responsibilities con’t… • Grading: • 50% Daily Grades (participation, daily exercises, journal entries, and etc.) •  50% Major Grades (tests, major projects, and portfolios) • Make-up Work: If you have an excused absence, the assignment/test may be made up. You are responsible for finding out about and completing all assignments/ tests. Please plan to stop by your teacher’s classroom to receive assignments. • Daily Work/Homework: All assignments will be turned in on time. Late work is not acceptable and will be penalized.

Grading Continued… • Major Grades/ Projects: All assignments that are taken for major grades will follow the Birdville ISD policy, which states “Students may be assessed a penalty of no more than ten (10) points per day for up to three (3) days before a zero may be given for work not turned in on time.”

  10. Things Students Will Do For Themselves… Take responsibility for own actions. Stop talking the first time I am asked or told.  Avoid talking when Mrs. Grosenbach is talking. Call parents if I need guidance concerning behavior or school work.

  11. Make up any assignments I miss due to absence according to the district policy which follows: One make-up day for every day absent. The due date is given by teacher according to this policy. Exception for major projects with due dates given well in advance. (Teacher will assess on individual basis.) Bring my supplies to class which include, but are not limited to: Pen/pencil (sharpened before class) Library Book Journals

  12. Ask for help or make an appointment when I feel like I do not understand an assignment or if I am having a problem in class. Turn in all my work when it is due. Be a successful student.

  13. Things I Will Do For My Students… I will listen carefully and respond to your questions. I will begin class promptly so that I value your time for learning.  I will keep, on hand, the following for use: Pens / pencils (to TRADE if yours runs out of ink or breaks)  I will post assignments in a timely manner.

  14.  I will keep appointments made. If an emergency arises, I will make efforts to inform you in a timely manner to make arrangements.  I will be available for tutorial help should you need it.  I will allow the opportunity for learning recovery on assignments not mastered or turned in during FAST time on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I will allow you to call a parent to inform them if you need guidance due to your behavior choices or school work concerns if needed.  I will support you in being the most successful student and individual that you can be.

  15. Tutorials Schedule Tutorials are available both before and after school by appointment. In order to attend, students should sign up on the appointment board in class. AM - 8:00 to 8:30 PM – 4:00 to 4:30

Reading for 7th Grade: • I strongly encourage students to purchase their own copies of the novels listed below. • Beginning next week: The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick • Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan • The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton • Selected novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and various selections of non-fiction

Reading for 8th Grade: • I strongly encourage students to purchase their own copies of the novels listed below. • My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier • Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie by David Lubar • Selected novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and various selections of non-fiction
