  15. A little History • The X Games were developed by ESPN in 1995. Originally known as the Extreme Games and renamed to X Games in 1996, the event was the first to feature the world’s best action sports athletes competing in a variety of summer-based competitions. Winter X Games, featuring winter competitions, were added in 1997 and international events in 1998.
