  2. What Happens During Hurricanes? • Hurricanes can produce very powerful wind and extremely heavy rain. They form over a large body of water. As they move inland it gets less strong but can still devastate any inland place not ready for one.

  3. What causes Hurricanes? • Hurricanes are strong low pressure areas that are formed in summer or the early part of fall. They are formed over large, warm bodies of water. The fuel for hurricanes is water vapor. When Water vapor condenses, it creates clouds and rain resulting in a hurricane.

  4. Where do hurricanes most commonly happen? • Hurricanes always happen in tropical convergence zones. Theses are the warmest parts of the earth. Examples of these zones are in costal states and the coast of Africa.

  5. Where have Hurricanes caused great damage. • In 2005, Hurricane Katrina started as a low category one storm over the Bahamas. As it moved north west along the Gulf Coast it became stronger as it devastated cities, especially New Orleans. It was the costliest natural disaster and one of the worst hurricanes ever in US history. It killed 1,836 people in total.

  6. Another time a hurricane caused great damage? • Another Hurricane that caused great damage was Hurricane Andrew of 1992. This struck southern Florida as a category 5 hurricane. It caused $26.5 billion in damage.
