  1. Status of ELI Beamlines

  2. Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) in brief • ELI will be the world’s first truly international laser research infrastructure, pursuing unique science and research applications for users • ELI will be implemented as a distributed research infrastructurebased initially on 3 specialised and complementary facilities located in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania • ELI is the first ESFRI project to be fully implemented in the newer EU Member States • ELI is pioneering a novel funding model combining the use of structural funds(ERDF) for the implementation and contributions to an ERIC for operation

  3. New science, unique research opportunities • ELI will comprise 4 branches: • Attosecond Laser Science, which will capitalize on new regimes of time resolution(ELIALPS, Szeged, HU) • High-Energy Beam Facility, responsible for development and application of ultra-short pulses of high-energy particles and radiation stemming from relativistic and later ultrarelativistc interaction(ELIBeamlines, Prague, CZ) • Nuclear Physics Facility with ultra-intense lasers and brilliant gamma beams (up to 19 MeV) enabling also brilliant neutron beam generation with a largely controlled variety of energies (ELINP, Magurele, RO) • Ultra-High-Field Science centred on direct physics of the unprecedented laser field strength(ELI 4, to be decided)

  8. ELI Beamlines Lasers – L1, L3 • L1: Installed and partially commissioned. • L1: Beam transport to E1 being installed. • L3: HAPLS installed and fully commissioned • L3: Compressor installed and under commissioning. • L3: Beam transport designed and under deployment to E3.

  9. ELI Beamlines Lasers – L2, L4 • L2: Partially developed • L2: Installation works in L2 hall began • L4: Laser system developed in Texas • L4: Compressor under design. • L3: Will be delivered in 09/2018.

  10. E1 – X-Ray science, applications • HHG: Partially commissioned (L1 laser commissioning expected. • PXS: Commissioning done, multiple technical issues. • SRS: Commissioned with Femtolaser and used for user experiments. • End stations (MAC, TREX): Installed, partially commissioned and ready for real runs.

  11. E3 – Plasma Physics Platform • Installed, commissioning done for vacuum. • L3 Beam transport being installed. • First commissioning expected 12/2018.

  12. E4 – Ion and proton acceleration and medical applications • ELIMAIA: ELIMED (INFN) + ELI part. • Delivered and installed in E4. • Commissioning of vacuum and magnets done. • Commissioning with L3 expected in 2019.

  13. E5 – electron acceleration • LUIS – developed with DESY and University of Hamburg. • Tested on site in Hamburg. • Installation at ELI in 2019. • Potential for upgrade - FEL • HELL – developed in house. • Chambers delivered, optics to be installed. • Expected in 2019.

  14. Other systems • L3 Beam Transport – installation in E3 (towers, blocks) • L4 Beam Transport – design phase • Control System – Finalizing installations in E1, works on Beam Transport controls, installations in E4, central vacuum controls ready • Personal Safety Systems – two integrated systems (Laser Safety System for L1-L4, Personal Safety Interlock for E1-E5), LSS installed, PSI being designed • Monitoring System – SW is done and installed, detectors being purchased, gas monitors planned

  15. Acknowledgement • Supported by the project ELI - Extreme Light Infrastructure – phase 2 (CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/15_008/0000162 ) from European Regional Development Fund.
