  3. major assessment: 50% (final writing pieces, projects, quizzes, tests, presentations, etc.) minor assessment: 35% (classwork, reflections, journals, etc.) homework: 15% (post-its/nightly logs, nightly assignments) GRADING

  4. we write everyday during workshop Memoir unit Finishing up first writing piece Daily mini-lessons & strategies Taking what was done in 6th & 7th to higher level New concepts WRITERS’WORKSHOP

  5. Memoir Essay  Persuasive, Explanatory, Literary Analysis Poetry Fiction Journal entries WRITING UNITS

  6. Conferencing allows for differentiation through the setting of individualized goals Rough drafts are written with teacher/student conferences Revisions are made through peer and teacher suggestions CONFERENCING

  7. Regular one-on-one or small group meetings to check for: Progress Difficulties/struggles Comprehension Implementation of strategies CONFERENCING

  8. Students should be reading every night for 30 minutes and completing a nightly reading log Our goal is to finish a book every two weeks Mini-lessons for reading strategies READERS’WORKSHOP

  9. Independent reading Summer reading Book clubs Whole class novels Nonfiction Reading incorporated into daily writing activities READERS’WORKSHOP

  10. Students should always have an independent reading book Along with reading and logging every night, students are to respond to their reading with theory & evidence reading reflections are due every Monday READING AT HOME

  11. Literature circles Class discussions daily Theory & evidence Engagement – participation Book talk presentations Speaking & dress, Poise, Creativity SPEAKING & LISTENING

  12. Students are encouraged to come to extra help for ANY reason I am available for extra help every morning I am available for afternoon help every Tuesday & Thursday Students must have a pass signed by me to attend extra help EXTRA HELP

  13. Our class website is updated weekly Please check the website regularly Homework and class information is posted weekly Words of the week  extra credit WEBSITE
