  1. Electric Systems – The FutureToday An Example Using The Scottish Experience

  2. Contents • Background • Our Vision • The Boiler • Features • Running Costs • Benefits

  3. Background “If everyone on the planet were to consume natural resources and generate carbon dioxide at the rate we do in the UK we'd need three planets to support us! Our homes and lifestyles have significant impacts on the environment” World Wildlife Fund Apr 2005 “Emissions are now at their highest since 1996 and 3% higher than when Labour came to power in 1997. The government will need to implement drastic changes if it is to meet its target to reduce carbon pollution by 2010.” Apr 2005

  4. Background- Government Policy Two of the principal issues associated with the Warm Homes and Energy Conservation Bill are fuel poverty and energy efficiency measures aimed at conserving energy. A household in fuel poverty is frequently defined as one in which more than 10% of income is spent on fuel to adequately heat the home. In England in 1996 an unacceptably high number of approximately 5 million households were in fuel poverty. The solution to the problem lies in the long-term improvement of housing stock. Energy conservation is a central part of Government policy to help meet the climate change commitment

  5. British Gas announce huge price hike 15:26pm 24th August 2004 British Gas today announced above inflation bill increases for its millions of customers. The energy giant said household gas bills would rise by 12.4% and electricity by 9.4% from September 20. The company blamed the increases on the record price of wholesale gas. Background Cont’D

  6. CO - The Silent Killer Invisible, odourless and tasteless - carbon monoxide (CO) lives up to its name as the silent killer. Exposure to relatively low levels of this highly poisonous gas can cause brain damage or death. CO can be produced when a gas appliance has not been correctly installed or maintained, or a flue or chimney has become blocked. Symptoms of CO poisoning are similar to those of viral infections and include drowsiness, weakness, headaches, nausea and pains in the chest. Background –Gas Safety

  7. Background Summary • Energy Sources are running out • Concerns about fuel safety • Maintenance Costs rising • Shortage Of Corgi trained engineers • Government committed to reducing global warming • Councils etc have to apply “decent homes standard” • Move towards –renewable energy

  8. Our Vision Approach Heat Recovery Ventilation Solar Panels Efficient Controls Good Insulation Efficient Heat Source Energy Management

  9. The Electric Boiler Outlet Injector containing 2 separate elements Relay Block Quick release Fitting PCB Inlet Thermistor

  10. Electric Boiler Large cabinet version Indicator Lights

  11. Features • Available in 6,9 &12kw versions • Varying cabinet sizes but all suitable to fit within a kitchen cupboard • No Flue Required • 100% Efficient • Suitable for installation into any wet central heating system • Has up to 6 stages of modulation (dependent on model)

  12. Features Cont’d • In use in the UK for over 12 years • Can be installed by any competent plumber/electrician • Low Weight • Requires No Maintenance

  13. Running Costs • Modulation ensures running costs are kept to a minimum • Low cost of ownership • No maintenance costs • Low Electricity tariffs are available contact us for details

  14. Running Costs • The Scottish Example Costs shown here Do not include intelligent Heating controls or hrv

  15. Trials Between October 2003 and May 2004 Alembic Research of Glasgow conducted temperature monitoring on 6 dwellings

  16. GRAMPIAN H.A NIGG KIRK ROAD - BLOCK 34

  17. Cost effective – Economical to install maintain and run Proven – Used Extensively in rural areas Low cost of ownership – No maintenance contracts to pay, long life expectancy Safe – No fear of explosion or poisoning Easy to install- no need for an outside wall Peace of mind – whole house tariffs organised Future proof –suitable to be used with renewable sources Environmentally Friendly Benefits

  18. What impact would good heating controls make? • Heating builds can be reduced substantially i.e. Kli-mat guarantees a 20% SAVING NO MATTER WHAT BOILER IS USED!

  19. What impact would good hrv make? • Research by EA technologies shows that for each through the wall unit used a saving of - 217.9kwh is achieved per annum

  20. Just Some Of The Users • North Lanarkshire Council • Hartford Homes • Falkirk Council • Trans-Pennine Properties • Freedom Group • Derbyshire C.C • Thurstons Group • Aberdeen Council

  21. In Summary • We Hope that this presentation has shown you • The value of our vision approach • How a creative package can tackle “fuel poverty” • The Simplicity Of an Electric Boiler • How cost effective they are to run • ( especially with other measures) ,maintain • and own • The quality of the products • How they address the issues of safety • Above all this approach does exactly what • It is designed to do ensuring • “Total Peace Of Mind”
