  5. Typical 1L Summer Tidbits about 1L summer Federal Government = Background Check + Citizenship Requirements Over 90% of 1Ls Work for only ONE Employer Most students work around 10 weeks (FIP is the week of August 3-7, 2020)

  6. TYPICAL 2L SUMMER Tidbits about the 2L Summer FIP is the primary tool for securing 2L summer employment Firms give permanent offers at the end of the 2L summer. Around 20% of 2Ls split their summer Around 1/3 of students who get post-graduate PI fellowships do their fellowship at an organization in which they worked during a summer.

What you can expect from us • guide you in developing an effective career plan; • identify resources to support your career plan; • respond to your emails or calls promptly (within two business days); • be on time and prepared for our meetings; • offer timely programming and information to support your job search; • provide you with meaningful feedback on your résumé, cover letters, and other application materials; • guide you through the application and interview process; • connect you to students, faculty, and alumni who we believe may be useful to your career exploration; • ensure that employers with whom you interact through CDO comport themselves with professionalism and in compliance with CDO’s Recruiting Policies and NALP’s Principles

What we expect from you • read our student communication and proactively seek out information you need from our office; • meet with your assigned CDO counselor, and as your career goals progress, meet with the counselor best suited to your interests; • attend CDO programs relating to your goals and interests, particularly our first-year application materials and interviewing sessions; • present your background and credentials accurately in all written and verbal communication; • build and engage your network using tools we provide; • be responsive to outreach from the office, including RSVPing when needed and responding to requests for updates on your job search; • honor commitments you have made, including showing up on time for meetings, attending events for which you RSVP, and honoring commitments to employers; • review and comply with CDO’s Recruiting Policies and NALP’s Principles

No Consideration of 1ls prior to December 1 In recognition of the importance of the first semester of law school in providing a strong academic foundation, prospective summer employers shall not consider applications from first-year students before December 1. Exceptions: • Federal entities that require candidates to undergo extended background checks (commonly entities involved in national security) and need to conduct summer hiring prior to December 1 to accommodate their unique hiring procedures, may receive and review applications prior to December 1. • Employers hiring for non-legal positions and foreign entities that need to conduct summer hiring prior to December 1 to accommodate their unique hiring procedures, may receive and review applications prior to December 1.
