  1. LNF Scientific Committee meetings: new program LNF SC 34 - MCS

  2. A broader scope • Beginning today, in addition to reports about the “internal” activities, we will hear more about “external” experimental work • “Internal” = centered on local accelerators • “External” = experiments at CERN, LNGS, in space, etc • For starters, will listen to status reports from the larger experiments: • ATLAS, LHCb, CMS and OPERA. • to gauge the balance of efforts within LNF of LHC and CERN-related initiatives • Most committee members are familiar with LHC and CNGS programs. We do not need a lot of general info on these experiments. • Our main interest is in LNF involvement • But we will not devote less attention to the internal lab activities: LNF is special in having a vital and flourishing physics program based on its accelerator division. LNF SC 34 - MCS

  3. Consequences • Need longer open session (1st day), longer closed session (2nd day) • Open session: from one afternoon to most of 1st day • Moved meetings with referees to afternoon of 1st day • Further committee interactions: • Organized cocktail hour after referee meetings, for more informal interactions with experiments • Arranged “lighter” dinner for committee and observers • Maybe committee members will share first reactions to presentations and contacts • Have not (yet) assigned referees for external activities • Let’s first see how this new mode plays out LNF SC 34 - MCS
