UNCLASSIFIED What are the big social media challenges? • Technology is only 1/3 of solution - Adoption, People are the rest • Help people understand how they benefit from collaboration • This is more of an art than a science • You can’t just put tools out and expect people to use them, you need a strategy • Understand the nature of the group using the tools • Teams need: flexibility and support for ad-hoc processes • Response: Collaborate outside the enterprise and use free/open tools • Find the incentives that will work.Trust is Paramount UNCLASSIFIED

  5. UNCLASSIFIED What are the big social media challenges? • Technical challenges: • Hacking is relatively easy by non-state actors • Mobility of Data (XML? RSS? Social connect?) • Examples from Change.gov: Revision control? Ownership? Tracking cookies? • People challenges: • More communication = more vocal objections • Admins of public sites might have agendas • The social hierarchy is really not that attractive • It’s hard to verify trust! What does ‘friend’ mean? UNCLASSIFIED
