  1. POL 201-N Orientation: Structure of the Course Updated 2011

  2. Syllabus • Go to my webpage http://www.stchas.edu/faculty/proesler/ • Note that I have several short papers due in addition to the exams and quizzes • All papers need to be sent in the body of an email (copy & paste; no attachments) with the name of the assignment as the subject. • The due dates are found on the syllabus

  3. Syllabus • Exams – Midterm & Final • Participation – Questions of the Week • Assignments • All papers need to be sent in the body of an email (copy & paste; no attachments) with the name of the assignment as the subject. • Quizzes • Use study guides & practice quizzes • The due dates are in the syllabus, but I am flexible and will consider changing the due dates if asked to with enough advanced notice

  4. Quiz style • When you take a quiz, you will only see one question at a time. You will be able to go back to any question as long as you don’t run out of time. • The quizzes are made up of multiple choice, short answer, and short essay questions • Please keep in mind the time limits for each quiz as well as the due date for the quiz • most quizzes are due at 10pm, but I may tweak the time • If you miss a quiz deadline, you cannot take it later • You are allowed to miss up to 30 points of quizzes • Your grade on those 30 points will be the grade you received on the multiple choice section of the final exam • If you ask in advance, I may extend the deadline, but not once the deadline has passed. • Practice/Knowledge Quiz

  5. Using Email & Bulletin Board • To send an email, simply click on the “private e-mail” button, then click “compose message.” • To see “old” messages, you need to click on the “display all messages” button (not just “display unread”) • To post a bulletin board message, click on the “bulletin board” button & then “compose discussion message.” • When you reply to a Question of the Week, please post your reply in the section of the discussion board for that question (QW #1 or QW #2….)

  6. How to Succeed in the Course • Go to my homepage: http://www.stchas.edu/faculty/proesler/and use the resources available • For more info, click “How to Get an A in this class” • Ask questions • Complete the study guide (on my webpage) • Read the text & other assignments • Take the practice quizzes on the textbook website • Take the quizzes the day before they are due • You cannot take quizzes after the due date • Turn in the assignments on time
