Irregular plural words • Many nouns do NOT follow the regular pattern for adding -s or –esto show more than one (plural form). • Regular: hat + s = hats; watch + es = watches • When words do not follow the regular pattern, we say they are IRREGULAR • (ir = not). • In this spelling lesson, we will focus on a few more irregular plural nouns...

  3. “F” changes to “ves” • Most of the time, when we have a SINGULAR noun ending with the letter “f” or “f + silent e” and we change it to a PLURAL noun, we change the “f” to “ves.” Singular:Plural: wife wives leaf leaves wolf wolves calf calves

  4. Consonant Suffix - ment -ment = act of or state of -Key Words: enjoyment, agreement - Usually a noun

  5. Vowel suffix - able - able = able to - Key Words: loveable, likeable

  6. SPELLING WORDS loaves capable experiment leaves dependable agreement wolves reliable assignment wives reasonable payment calves valuable movement knives likeable statement loveable government
