Italian Presidency - General Principles Ministero della Salute • Promote an open debate in order to make the «Europe 2020» Strategy more effective and relevant • The Strategy will be addressed in all relevant Council formations, paving the way to the pursuit of the Europe 2020 Strategy mid term review in 2015 • Support strategies to achieve the Europe 2020 targets: • Promoting investments in human capital, R&D • Innovation and growth • Creating conditions to secure a long-term financing for the real economy • Italian Presidency will act with a view to • facilitate the transition, • create a favourable political environment • promote a constructive debate between all stakeholders, • lowering the gap perceived between citizens and EU Institutions • Exploit the margin of improvements in the functioning of institutions offered by the Lisbon Treaty provisions 6
