  12. Digital Citizenship Digital citizenship is about establishing the norms of appropriate, safe, and responsible behavior when using technology resources. Digital citizenship requires respecting ones self and others when using electronic communication devices and not utilizing technology to hurt, harm or deceive others. Digital citizenship means following guidelines set by parents, schools, employers and the law about what should be accessed and when.

Remember that sometimes, free stuff –like games, ring tones or screen savers- can hide viruses and spyware. Use peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing services with caution. Security scan downloaded items before opening them.

  22. Digital Citizenship Use privacy settings to restrict who can see and post to your profile. Trust your gut if you feel threatened or uncomfortable because someone or something you find online. Tell someone who can help. Limit your online friends to people you actually know. Learn about social mapping and use only with people you know personally.
