  8. 1.Self Reflection through The People Tree •  Firstly, participants were asked to reflect on themselves to think about how they felt at the beginning and the end. The people tree was used as a tool to allow the participants to reflect privately. Participants were invited to share only if they wanted to. The feedback from those who shared was very positive with participants saying they felt happy, that they learned a lot and that they were proud of themselves for participating. See below an example of this self reflection and evaluation form.

  10. 2.Group Discussion on Successes, Challenges and Recommendations • Participants were asked to work in small groups to identify successes, challenges and recommendations. They then wrote them on post its and placed them on the flip chart paper. All pages were then discussed in the larger group and new comments and thoughts which arose from this discussion were added to the flip charts.

  12. Challenges • The most challenging part of the project for participants was the social aspect, this came up as a challenge but also ultimately a reward. It was expressed that while it was challenging it was also the part they liked the most. Participants felt it was challenging talking in a group and opening up, meeting new people. Some also said they would like more time and more breaks.

  14. Recommendations • There was a common theme running throughout each of the groups, that they wanted more! More projects like this one, More time to explore ideas, more workshops for longer periods weekly, monthly and throughout the academic year were all recommended. • It was recommended that this would be part of all school curriculum and that it should be introduced to younger age groups. • It was suggested that all case studies that would be used could be developed from the group itself to make it more relevant to their particular situations.

Focus Group Discussion & Recommendations to Authorities • The majority agreed that technology was the most common addiction and it was a problem however they felt that drugs which were not as common had a worse effect. • When asked to discuss examples of negative behaviour and the effects addiction has on their peers. The focus was mainly on health, both mental and physical as well as their relationships with friend and family. In addition their performance in school. It was clear that the participants were knowledgeable and aware when it came to addictions and had a lot to say on the matter.

Responses to help prevent Technology, Drugs and Gambling addiction • Participants felt generally that prevention is better when possible, one of the major interventions that was repeated again and again was extra-curricular activities. Having things to do that are fun and social like sports, clubs, hang out spaces. However many agreed there should be punishment for drug dealers and smartphones should be banned in schools. Interestingly, many participants agreed that having knowledgeable and non judgemental parents to talk to was a major help to them to choosing not to engage in addictive behaviour. This led us to focus the next session solely on the family's role in addiction support and prevention.

Overall Recommendations • Targeting families at risk and teaching them communications skills as well as education on addictive behaviours • Peer to peer support system, building relationships and healthy communities. • Setting up more programs in schools which run throughout the year • Parents programs to educate them on addictions and healthy communication skills • More clubs and activities for teenagers especially in rural areas
