  1. KS3 Essay Success Chart Evaluating a Source This is all about judging whether or not a source is trustworthy (do you believe what the source is saying?) – Mr. Grant’s mother saying he was the most beautiful baby in the world is untrustworthy because she is his mother and is there fore a partial (biased) witness. Key Evaluation Ideas Nature of the source What is it? What does it say? Origin of the source When was it made? Who made it? Where was it made? Purpose Why did they make it? Level 8 Level 7 Level 6 Conclusions Give your view on the question Provides a summary that links together some of the key evidence Compares the factor you’ve picked out as most important with other factors Level 5 Explaining: This is all in your ability to tell the reader what your evidence (facts) has to do with the question- Why is Lionel Messithe best footballer in the world? He scored 53 goals in the 2010/11 season which demonstrates he is the best footballer in the world because nobody scored more goals in any of the top leagues around the world last year. Level 4 Using relevant facts: Don’t just plonk in any old facts- try to use ones relevant to your question - If I asked you to tell me why Lionel Messi is the best footballer in the world giving me a fact about his favourite food being pizza wouldn’t be relevant. Telling me he scored 53 goals in the 2010/11 season would be. Level 3 Facts: Names of key events Dates of key events Names of important people Statistics e.g. number of killed at a battle
