Top  10  Ways  Rodents  Can  Cause  Problems  in  Your  Home…

1:  RODENTS  CAN  CONTAMINATE  FOOD

Food  stores  can  be  easily  contaminated  by  rats  and  mice  through  droppings,  fur  and  urine.  It  is  a  serious

health  risk  and  must  be  disposed  of,  even  though  throwing  away  contaminated  food  wastes  money.

2:  SQUIRRELS  CAN  BE  A  FIRE  HAZARD

Squirrels  are  a  potential  safety  risk  to  homeowners  as  they  have  a  tendency  to  chew  through  electrical

wiring  in  the  loft.  They  must  be  eliminated  quickly  as  fire  is  very  dangerous  and  must  be  taken  seriously.

3:  MICE  CAN  CHEW  ON  YOUR  WOOD

Mice  will  chew  holes  in  furniture  and  wooden  items,  and  also  will  burrow  holes  into  walls  and

cupboards.  The  reason  for  this  is  their  teeth  need  gnawing  down  as  they  are  constantly  growing.

4:  RODENTS  CAN  CARRY  PARASITES

Rodents  are  a  major  health  hazard  and  may  also  carry  their  own  pests.  They  carry  things  like  ticks,  fleas

and  lice  which  is  a  big  concern  for  the  wellbeing  of  the  family.

5:  MICE  CAN  CHEW  YOUR  FABRICS

Mice  like  soft  padding  or  stuffing  from  upholstery  to  collect  materials  for  a  nest.  They  will  also  pull

pieces  from  your  carpet  and  bite  holes  in  soft  furnishings.

6:  SQUIRRELS  CAN  DAMAGE  STRUCTURES

Squirrels  have  been  known  to  chew  through  roof  beams  and  loft  supports  because  of  their  liking  for

wooden  timbers,  which  causes  a  structural  damage  to  a  property  causing  worry.

7:  RODENTS  CAN  TRANSMIT  DISEASES

You  can  contract  sicknesses  from  rats  which  can  be  potentially  fatal  and  they  also  transmit  serious  viral

diseases  like  hantavirus.  Their  droppings  and  bites  carry  bacteria  such  as  salmonella.

8:  RATS  AND  MICE  BREED  RAPIDLY

Female  mice  produce  between  5  and  10  litters,  with  up  to  14  babies  in  each  litter  per  year.  This  high

reproduction  rate  also  applies  to  rats  as  well  as  mice,  meaning  a  few  pests  can  rapidly  become  a  serious

infestation.

9:  SQUIRRELS  CAN  CAUSE  WATER  PROBLEMS

These  cute,  bushy  tailed  rodents  are  known  to  contaminate  water  tanks  with  their  droppings  and  may

even  cause  floods  by  chewing  their  way  through  a  property’s  water  pipes.

10:  RATS  CAN  ENTER  IN  UNEXPECTED  WAYS

Rats  are  very  skilled  at  climbing  and  swimming,  and  can  hold  their  breath  for  long  periods  of  time.  This

allows  them  to  travel  through  sewage  pipes  and  drains,  and  up  into  your  house  through  the  toilet.
