  2. Brief History!!! During the time from 1500-1750's, Europeans knowledge and education of the world were greatly influenced by the biblical teachings based on Christianity but when scientific knowledge entered into their lives people started to express and understand the world by means of scientific factors, however religious beliefs and traditions still remain intact in some parts of Europe. • European knowledge-based on Greek & Roman writings. • Geocentric theory: Earth centered model • Heliocentric theory: Sun centered model.

  3. Early Enlightenment!!! • Scientific thoughts inspired European governments and individuals to question the reasonableness of accepted practices in things such as: agriculture, social hierarchy, laws and religion. • Purpose of government: to create order in society. • People-natural rights to life, liberty, property. • Enlightenment thinkers also influenced and took inspirations from diverse groups of different agenda and other cultures. • New scientific methods provided a model for changing European society. • Opposition came from absolute rulers & from the clergy but printing press made possible the survival & dissemination of new ideas.

  4. TheRepresentatives!!!  Voltaire Montesquieu Jean-Jacques Rousseau Denis Diderot John Locke

  5. Scientific Revolution!!! • Aristotle writings: everything on earth was reducible to four elements, sun, moon, planets, & stars – they rotated around the earth in perfect circular orbits . • Copernicus & other scientists, including Galileo, undermined this earth-centered model – the earth revolves around the sun. • Copernican model initially criticized & suppressed by Protestant leaders & Catholic church but books spread these & other new scientific ideas among European intellectuals. • Other examples: Issac Newton and his law of gravity proved that planets moved around the sun in elliptical orbits. • Scientific Revolution demonstrated that the workings for the universe could be explained by natural causes. • Laid the groundwork for modern science.

  7. Changes !!! • A new class of society gradually appears. • For example: Due to these new educations they European people learned more about the universe and new explanations on natural causes. • The development in science inspired new ideas and philosophies. • New scientific ideas and education led Europe to become a place full of innovations and philosophies after the scientific revolution. • Due to the philosophies of scientific knowledge, the church started loosing its power to the society.

  8. Similarities or Continuities!!! • Traditional Thinking such as: beliefs in supernatural such as witchcrafts and magic. • The church still gains power over some society due to their wealth and education. • Conflict within science revolution and traditional. • The argument between Science revolution and Christianity beliefs kept the same.
