Demand Factor from Lone Parents Scotland • Economic factors – employment, flexibility, financial viable • Childcare factors – costs, concern of quality, shift work causes problems • Parent factor – low self esteem, lack of confidence, low skill levels, health issues • Child factors – lack of desire will child at school, additional support needs, unsuitable childcare for Childs needs • Logistical factors – transport, location of employment, no awareness of childcare available, lack of trust JC+, transition into work • Greatest barrier – accessible, affordable, sustainable and quality childcare

Lone parents and Further/Higher Education • Varies across the sector • Many college have own nurseries • More support available to full-Time students, childcare funds, Student Award support • Full time - EMA, tuition fees, ILA’s, Careers development loan, Bursary, travel, study costs, child tax credit, adult dependent grant, childcare, additional learning allowance, discretionary funds. • Part-time - tuition fees, ILA’s, Careers development loan, travel, study costs, child tax credit, childcare, additional learning allowance, discretionary funds.
