  2. What Is Mentoring? • From the Greek word meaning “enduring” • Is a cooperative and nurturing relationship between a more experienced business person and a less experienced person who wants to learn about particular business • One of crucial and important factors in business success

  3. Mentoring in Women’s Business • Mentor- women business owners willing to give back to their communities by assisting other women ready to grow their businesses • Protégée- new business owners, eager to learn from entrepreneurs with more experience and expertise

  4. Benefits of Mentoring to Person • Enhance and expand career skills • Advancement in career • Higher salary • More enjoyment from work • Increases self-satisfaction • Benefits social life

  5. Benefits of Mentoring to Business • Facilitates growth • Boosts consistency and excellence • Increase in staff motivation and performance • Reduced turnover • Greater employee loyalty • Promotes sharing of information • Improved productivity

  6. Good Advice We needed mentors to get where we are. When we are ready, we can become mentors. Regardless old how old we are or how inexperienced we see ourselves, there are always others who are just taking their first steps on a path we have trod. We may have something to offer them.

  7. Types of Mentoring • Formal mentoring- regularly scheduled meetings focused on education and guidance about obtaining new work skills • Informal mentoring- encouraging phone calls, regular lunches or modeling an admired mentor’s approach to work

  8. Virtual Mentoring • More common in the era of e-mail and videoconferencing • Distance is not as an obstacle to mentoring • Especially helpful for global companies

  9. What Is Networking? • Sharing of information, ideas, resources and opportunities • Powerful way to meet people and get things done
