  1. What are you Listening to? By: Landon Staab 10/29/12 Period: 4

  2. Michael Jackson: Rock With Me • I chose this song because I often listen to it. Every time I listen to music and it puts me in a good mood with it’s upbeat sounds and beats that accompanies the lyrics. This song to me means that it takes work to keep up a good relationship and the singer clearly understands this and communicates it with the listeners. The mood of the song is very happy and upbeat, and the tone is also very happy and exciting.

  3. Michael Jackson: Rock With Me • This song is a figurative song because it uses the dance floor and dancing as a theme to tell her that he wants to be with her and love her. • The rhyme pattern is not very clear to a path but in verses he does incorporate some rhyming in the lyrics. • This song is about how he wants to be husband or boyfriend (most likely) with this girl that he met and he incorporates the dance floor as a way to suggest this to her.

  4. Michael Jackson: Rock With Me • The title relates to the song by giving a hint at the type of figurative language he will be using to get the message across to the listeners. • The message of this song is to always treat someone you love or someone related to you with love and care and always provide unconditional love. • The three literal devices of the song is Rhyme, Figurative Language, and Repetition. They are found randomly throughout the song and the figurative language is the whole song. • I would break this down into poetry by decreasing the amount of chorus repetition and incorporating more rhyme in the lyics.

  6. Eminem: Mockingbird • I chose this song because Eminem is one of my favorite music artists of all time, and this song has a lot of meaning in the lyrics. I have a lot of memories of my own that could relate to some situations that he sings about. This song puts me in a appreciative mood because it makes me realize how good of a life that I have had and how some kids have it crappy. The tone of the song is kind of sad but lonely at the same time because he is sad for his girls and he misses them a lot. This song is intended to help people that are going through problems because if they are experiencing what is happening to him they can understand and not give up.

  7. Eminem: Mockingbird • My song is a big literal song because he elaborates on what has literally been happening and the events that have been going on in his life. He tells first hand memories and events that have happened to him. • There is no clear rhyming pattern in the song and it is not a very strong point in the song but it is still present. • This song is about how he got divorced from his wife and how his daughters were separated from him and how they are with him now but there mother is gone in rehab from drug abuse. It also goes on about memories he had when they were all together as a family at Christmas.

  8. Eminem: Mockingbird • The title relates to the song hinting at the end when he uses figurative language about another song saying that he would do anything to make them happy and smile. • The message the song is trying to convey is that things may be bad and they might suck but there is always a time when things are better or getting better. • The three literary devices are Rhyming, Figurative Language, Literal Language, and maybe some Repetition. • I would convert this to poetry by taking out the memories of Christmas, incorporating more rhyme, and repetition while keeping the literal language.

  10. Song Comparison (Rock With Me: Michael Jackson, Mockingbird: Eminem) • The songs that I have chosen both have similar themes, and they are both about unconditional love. Although they show it in different ways this is what both of the song authors intend. They both love the person they are talking to and not only talking about it but physically showing it and doing it. They do not have similar rhyme patterns however. Michael Jackson’s song talked about the unconditional love while Eminem’s song actually talked about it and made instances where he showed unconditional love toward his daughter. There are also genre differences as well. Eminem’s song is a slight bit dark and fast while Michael Jackson’s song is happy and upbeat. The way they sing it is different too because there are fast and slow times in Eminem’s song, but in Michael Jackson’s there is a steady beat and no change in it whatsoever.
