  3. 1 Significance of developing IoT (i) What is Internet of Things IoT senses and identifies the physical world via sensing technology and intelligent devices, performs computations, processing and knowledge mining through networking, realizes interaction between people and things, things and things, achieves real time control of the physical world, precise management, and scientific decision makings. IoT involves sensing, networking, processing, security, and covers sensors/nodes/gateways, RFID, embedded systems, telecommunication equipment manufacturing and operation, software development and integration, and application services.   6. 2 Current Status (i) Current status of IoT in China Problems: lag behind foreign competitors in core technologies; undeveloped in advanced service integrations; no leading firms emerged yet; penetration is low and in small scale; potential security risks

  7. 2 Current Status (ii) Situation in China The national Twelfth Five-Year Plan is an important period for China’s IoT to transit from its starting stage to large-scale developing stage, and more and more opportunities and challenges are emerging.

  9. 3 Vision, Strategies, Goals (i) Vision Grasp the historic opportunities of world-wide Sci-&-Tech revolution and industry revolution, seize the opportunity of developing new national strategic industries and changing the mode of economic developments, strengthening planning and collaboration, encouraging innovation, strengthen application-driven, emphasize supervision and administration, emphasize information security; emphasize policy support, emphasize development environment. Develop core techniques, key standards, extend applications scales, and then construct industry infrastructure, and strive to form a good base to develop IoT in the near future. Vision : A global opportunity, a domestic opportunity, four strengthen, four emphasis, two realistic goals

An open market economy that promotes competition is beginning to take shape. • Develop IoT enterprise or business association, and improve industrial concentration. • Make brand products in the areas of sensor, core chip, sensor node, operating system, database software, middleware, application software, embedded software, system integration, gateway, information communication network, information service, and intelligent controlling.

  23. 5 Major Projects (i) Key Technology Innovation Projects Enable enterprises take the leading role in R&D of IoT, Fully use existing achievements by universities and research institutes. Catch up with international advanced level in information sensing and processing, take leading role in developing information transmission technologies, making breakthroughs as soon as possible in core technologies, and quickly form a full hierarchy of IoT techniques and industrialization.

  25. 5 Major Projects (ii)Standardization Promotion Projects These projects aim to building a standardized system of internet of things, relying on the standard organizations of various fields, industry associations, and industry alliances. Key common technology standards and industry standard application development is in special concern. The standard information services, certification, testing system are to be developed to promote a number of independent intellectual property standards as international standards.

With this strategic layout, the modern industrial clusters with complete service platform ,strong character and highlight brand will be gradually created.

  29. 5 Major Projects (ⅳ) Demonstrationprojects in key areas Demonstration projects in key areas are designed to explore the application model, application deployment and to promote the accumulation of experience and methods. Such projects generate mature service models that can be replicated in industry, then prepare for the social-wide scale use. In the economic field, such applications should be first developed in large important enterprises. And in the field of people's daily lives, the applications should be guided by government. With the combination of key technology, industry, and standardization institutes, excellent solution schemes will have active effect in the development of the whole industry.
