Solving Word Problems

1. Solving Word Problems Read the problem. Decide WHO is involved in the problem. Decide WHAT is involved in the problem. Be very specific. Draw unit bars of equal length – begin a plan to solve the problem. Read each sentence – making sure you have covered all parts of the question. Put “?” in place – what are we solving for? Work computations. Answer question in a complete sentence. Does the answer make sense – check your work.

6. Colin spent ¼ of his money on a story book. If the story book cost $6, how much money did Colin have at the beginning?

7. The number of cars registered in Imperial is 4 times the number of trucks registered. If 4,356 cars are registered, how many trucks are registered in Imperial?

8. Grace worked in a factory for 9 days. She was paid $45 each day. How much did she earn altogether?
