  3. Bluetooth • Wireless, short distance communication between devices • Device can connect up to 7 others • WPAN • About 33 feet • IEEE 802.15.1 • 2.4GHz • Low power, cost, size • Security through PIN

  4. Infrared • Low power, short range • Line of sight • Can’t go through walls • 3’ or less with computers • Printer, keyboard, mouse

  5. Cellular WAN • Data access through cellular network • Needs adapter

  6. Wi-Fi • 802.11a, b, g, n • B, g, n use 2.4GHz • A uses 5GHz • Enable security or use VPN • WPA/WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) • 128-bit encryption • Authentication

  7. Satellite • For rural or remote user • Faster then dial-up, slower than DSL • High cost • Satellite dish, modem, coax cable • Bad weather can interfere
