La macchina utensile • La macchina utensile ha tre parti: • Motrice; • Trasmissione; • Utensile. • La macchina utensile è «un meccanismo il quale, dopo che gli sia stato comunicato il moto corrispondente, compie con i suoi strumenti le stesse operazioni che che prima erano eseguite con analoghi strumenti dall’operaio» (K. Marx).

Filatoio meccanico di Lewis Paul e John Wyatt (1733); 3. Giannetta filatrice (jenny) di James Hargreaves (1764); 4. Filatoio ad acqua (water-frame) di Richard Arkwright (1769); 5. Mule di Samuel Crompton (1779); 6. Telaio meccanico di Edmund Cartwright (1785).
