  1. The Assignment Tool in myeLearning

  2. Adding Assignments • The Assignment Activity allows your students to upload files for grading. This content is not confined to word processed documents but can take the form of spreadsheets, presentations, photographs, video clips and audio clips. The Assignment Activity can also be used as an online grade book for assignments submitted in class. From your Course Home Page: 1. Click the Turn editing onbutton/link.

  3. 2. Scroll to the block in which you want to add the assignment. • 3. From the Add an activity…dropdown menu, select Assignment.

  4. The Adding a new Assignment settings page will open. • In the Assignment name field, type a relevant name. This is the name that will be displayed to students on the Course Home Page.

  5. Adding a new assignment: Dialogue box • 5. In the Description field, type all instructions and details for the assignment. • 6. In the Grade dropdown menu, select the percentage/points the assignment is worth. • 7. Select the day, month, year, and time you want the Assignment to be available to students (Available from) and when you no longer want them to have access (Due date). • 8. Select “Yes” from the dropdown list to Prevent late submissions. • 9. Choose one of the four assignment options from the Assignment type • Dropdown menu. The four assignment types are:

  6. The four assignment types are: • Advanced uploading of files– This assignment type allows students to upload one or more files and add a note. • b. Offline activity – This assignment allows the Lecturer to provide students with feedback for assignments submitted in a facetoface class. Students cannot upload a file but they can view their grades • after the lecturer has marked the assignment. • c. Online text This assignment type allows students to type or paste their assignment submission on screen in myeLearning. Lecturers can also add inline comments or changes. • d.Upload a single file – This assignment type allows students to upload a single file.

Group Assignments • 10.If this is a group Assignment, select whether you want Separate (groups are hidden from each other) or Visible (groups are able to see one another) groups from the Group Mode dropdown menu. • 11.If you want to hide the Assignment for further editing prior to releasing it to students, select “Hide” from the Visible dropdown menu. • 12.Click the Next button. • The page and options you see after clicking the Next button will depend on the Assignment type that you selected in Step 9.

  10. Advanced uploading of files • After you click the Next button: • The Advanced uploading of files settings page opens.

The Maximum size setting is 2 MB, is the size of the file students can upload. • If you select “Yes” from the Allow deleting dropdown menu, students will be able to replace/delete uploaded files before the assignment due date. • From the Maximum number of uploaded files dropdown list, select the number of files students can upload for the assignment. • If you select “Yes” from the Allow notes dropdown menu, students will be allowed to type a note. For example, if students were submitting a contribution to their portfolio, they could use the note to provide a rationale for their submission. • If you select “Yes” from the Hide description before available date dropdown menu, you will prevent your students from seeing the assignment description before the date that it is available. • From the Email alerts to teachers dropdown list, select “Yes” if you want to have a message sent to your email whenever a student submits an assignment. • Click Continue. The assignment that you have created will appear.

  12. Offline Activity • After you click the Next button: • The Offline activity settings page opens. Click Continue. The assignment that you have created will appear.

  13. Online text • After you click the Next button: • The Online text activity settings open.

  14. To allow resubmitting • If you select “Yes” from the Allow resubmitting dropdown menu, students will be able to resubmit assignments that you have already graded (for regrading). • 2. From the Email alerts to teachers dropdown list, select “Yes” if you want to have a message sent to your email whenever a student submits an assignment. • 3. If you select “Yes” from the Comment inline dropdown menu the student’s submission will be copied into your feedback field, making it easier for you to make comments inline. • Note – When entering this information, consider using a different font colour and type to distinguish your comments from the student’s submission. • 4. Click Continue. The assignment that you have created will appear.
