WARM UP – Answer Completely You have been invited to your first middle school party at a friend’s home. It is a costume party and you are both wearing the same devil costume. By the end of the night, you find that you have lost your pitchfork and notice that your friend now has two of them. You approach your friend and he tells you that it was given to him by another person at the party. You feel certain that the pitchfork belongs to you. How do you negotiate with your friend to get your costume prop back?

Targets: • Students will compare the definitions of: • empathy and sympathy, • define ally, and • reflect on when people need allies.
Lesson 4: Negotiating and Compromising Students will be able to: • Solve a problem using the Action Steps • Identify a problem from the perspectives of those involved • Generate solutions using strategies of negotiation and compromise (win-win strategies) • Apply the Action Steps to problem solving

Lesson 4E - I How does hostility affect your health? What are the health effects of hostile feelings and behaviors? How can hostility affect your overall health? What is the relationship between hostility and detrimental health behaviors? What is the association between hostility and disease? How can hostility get in the way of reaching win-win solutions? Groups will report their findings to the class.
