  2. Visualize the Text • Read a few sentences and describe what is happening. • Make a graphic representation of it. • Discuss with a buddy. • Read aloud.

  3. Try Thinking Aloud • Make Predictions • Make connections and clarify your own thoughts. • Question what you don’t understand. • Visualize the text.

  4. Re-read and Re-word • Re-read the text for a better understanding. • Re-word • Write down sentence. • Choose difficult words and re-word them.

  5. Summarize TextSomebody Wanted But So (AWBS) Make a chart: • Somebody - write characters name. • Wanted – What character wanted to do. • But – What happened. • So – Outcome.

  6. Question Maps • Make 4 columns. • List your Questions. • Make notes. • Place to find the answer. • The answer.

  7. Reading Rate Tips (Pick up the pace) • Don’t read one word at a time. (No pause.) • When reading silent…stay silent. • Don’t use finger to point. • Practice reading.

  8. Words to Know • Metacognition (Pg. 1334) – Ability to think about your thinking. • Reading Rate (Pg. 1341)– The pace at which you read.
